Since the excitement of getting her first photographs back from the lab at age 10, Melissa has been passionate about capturing life and the people around her on film.
Joining a camera club at age 14, she began to pursue her interest for photography and took her first portraits of friends using the stage lights behind the curtains of the school hall.
Taking the opportunity to see more of the world, she left the shores of New Zealand at 21 on a six month contract as a ship photographer, sailing the coastlines of the Meditteranean, America and the Caribbean.
This trip fueled her ongoing interest in different cultures and landscapes, and over the past 8 years, her travel photography has become an integral part of her folio of work. Alongside this documentary style of work, she has continued her love of portrait photography, undertaking private commissions for musicians and performers.
